What to Expect from Our Reclaimed Wood Furniture – Beauty with Character

At Little Devon Furniture Company, we’re proud to create handcrafted furniture using 100% reclaimed wood, primarily locally sourced scaffolding boards. If you’re thinking about investing in one of our pieces, here’s what you can expect when it comes to the look, feel, and character of the wood we use — because it’s not like the “perfect” boards you’ll find in a chain shop (and we believe that’s a good thing).

🌿 Sustainably Sourced with a Story

We don’t use new or manufactured wood. Everything we make is crafted from reclaimed timber, giving old wood a second life. Most of our material comes from scaffolding boards used on building sites across the local area — timber that has already proven its strength and durability.

🪵 Unique Character in Every Piece

Reclaimed wood tells its own story. You can expect:

  • Knots and nail holes

  • Old saw marks or weathered textures

  • Natural grain variations

  • Subtle colour changes from years of use and exposure

These features are not flaws — they’re part of the charm. Each board is different, giving your furniture personality you simply can’t replicate with new or mass-produced wood.

🔧 Carefully Prepared by Hand

Every piece of wood is cleaned, sanded, and treated by hand to ensure it’s safe, smooth to the touch, and ready for your home. Tim creates furniture in the workshop on Dartmoor National Park, and takes the time to clean, sand, and prepare each board by hand. While we preserve its character, we also make sure it's practical and finished to a high standard.

🎨 Custom Finishes to Suit Your Style

Because every board is unique, so is every finish. You can choose the tone that best suits your space, and we’ll apply it in a way that still allows the natural features of the wood to shine through.

💪 Built to Last

Scaffold boards are built for strength, and your furniture will be too. The result? Solid, dependable furniture with a rustic charm and zero compromise on durability.

My Final Thoughts

Choosing reclaimed wood furniture means choosing sustainability, authenticity, and character. No two pieces are ever exactly alike — and that’s the beauty of it. When you buy from us, you’re not just getting furniture — you’re getting a story, a soul, and a piece of Dartmoor history.

If you have any questions about the wood or finishes, feel free to get in touch — we’re always happy to talk timber.
